Rebecca Simmons the club president along with three other members of the Essex Toastmaster Club took a trip to visit the Somerville Toastmasters Club. We had a great time visiting and participating in their meeting. Marcia Chambers gave a speech, Wendy Moses was an evaluator and Gebrina Roberts served as the Table Topics Master. Anthony Simmons also joined us on this trip to capture the Traveling Gavel and we both had an opportunity to participate in Table Topics. The hospitality was great and members of both clubs enjoyed meeting and interacting with each other. We not only captured the gavel but we gleaned some very useful information to take back and implement in our club meetings. Thanks Somerville. We ll see you soon because we know you are coming. We are looking forward to sharing another great meeting with you all. Sincerely Rebecca Simmons Club President Essex ToastmastersRebecca Simmons

We were warmly welcomed to the meeting of the Gateway 2 Toastmasters club. Alasdair King took the opportunity to give an ice breaker speech, starting a new Pathway, whilst Marlon acted as an evaluator for one of the club speakers and Chee took the role of grammarian. We enjoyed seeing different approaches to our own club and will be taking away a number of learnings. We received light hearted ribbing about stealing their gavel, especially during the Table Topics, but they did such a good job of showing how much fun it is to have guests that it is impossible to rescind our request to take it on. We listened to a speech from one of the club members on holding a mirror to oneself, providing a valuable lesson in how to approach each day positively. For the table topics we heard about the rights and wrongs of theft, about children taking each others toys, and how it feels to have something taken from you.Alasdair King

What a wonderful meeting, greeted by Judy Valencia and Rob Peterson. They had three prepared speeches which were very diverse in topic. A meeting room with every chair filled + extra, and wall-to-wall chocolate! Also surrounded by warm smiles and words of encouragement. We all felt very welcome, had a few laughs and alot of fun!

President Tina described that it was the 1 year anniversary for Toasting on the Farm. They had a delicious cake to commemorate the occasion. The travelling gavel was prominently displayed. Theresa Yarosh was Toastmaster. She controlled the meeting and made sure the meeting ran smoothly. There were two speakers: one concentrating on CC#6 "Today is Your Special Day".. Superbly she described all of the many special personal and historical things have happened on this day and throughout history. It was an enjoyable and happy presentation.
The next presenter spoke from an Advanced Manual Persuasive Speaking and her speech was "Zappos". By the end, we all wanted to work for them , except that they were in Nevada. Odlly, I have the distingct need to buy shoes online today.
Tim our able bodied, Table Topicsmaster, asked us what our middle names or nicknames were. He addressed the speakers by their names as he asked some fabulously funny and enlightening questions.
The evaluators were thoughtful in their feedback of the presentations. Martin was the timer. All in all, it was fun to visit Mearsk and Toasting on the Farm Toastmasters. President Tina thanked all of the guests that came and was pleased to have a good attendance at the meeting.

It was a night for guests to shine - in addition to Northern Stars there were at least SIX other guests at the meeting! The meeting was smoothly run and lots of fun, and the guests were all enthusiastic about a return visit.

Northern Stars now holds the gavel. We meet on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of every month, from 7-9pm at Verizon Headquarters in Basking Ridge. Come and be our guest!

After holding the gavel for less than 6 days, Cosmopolitan Toastmasters was raided by three members of their sibling club, Murray Hill Speakers at Alcatel-Lucent in Murray Hill, NJ. Amanda Salvarani gave an excellent evaluation of Speaker #1, and MHSC President Andrew Smith addressed the meeting with a message of friendship and camaraderie. The fourth member of MHSC at the meeting was Brian Cort, who is also a member of Cosmopolitan, so he was both raider and raidee. Brian gave Evaluation #2.

MHSC meets on the First, Third, and Fifth Wednesdays of every month at 600-700 Mountain Avenue, New Providence NJ 07974. It's an awesome club! Come see us!

FIVE Members of Cosmopolitan Toastmasters, plus one Junior member Andre Hance, Age 8, raided the Northern Stars meeting on Wednesday January 20 and made off with the Gavel, despite menacing words from Steve Lord, Northern Stars' President and noted authority on Alien Abduction. The Toastmaster was Brian Cort, who being a member of both Cosmopolitan and Northern Stars, was in the unusual position of being both Raider and Raidee. Jorge Aguilar gave the invocation, Olga Hance served as Timer, Tom Hance as Grammarian, and Roopa Rudrapatna gave the Joke of the Day, Word of the Day, and served as evaluator #2B - Content.

The meeting was a rousing success, and revolved around the theme "GROWTH!" Northern Stars is an advanced club that is superbly well run, and welcomes all Toastmasters to visit its meetings on 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesdays at 435 South Street in Morristown from 7-9pm. As an Advanced Club, NS requires that all of its members continue to be members in their home clubs. Come join us!

The District 83 Traveling Gavel may be 6 inches longer than it was just the other day. At the conclusion of the NYLIM Toastmasters meeting on July 14th a kerfuffle broke out and the Meandering Mallet was subjected to a tug-o-war. Stalwart NYLIM members refused to yield and marauding Hackettstown Toastmasters became physical. Tempers had flared earlier when Hackettstown VP-E Jim Birnbaum, serving as Topicmaster of the NYLIM meeting, called NYLIM President Don Osmanski a milksop for going 59 seconds on a Table Topic. Later, Hackettstown President Bill Watras, serving as Ah-Counter, cited NYLIM member John Peterson for 137 ahs and the benches cleared. Caught in the middle of the Great Gavel Grab was Lois Steward, Immediate past President of the Hackettstown club AND current VP-Education of the NYLIM club. In the melee Steward was "hammered" senseless and trampled to death underfoot. NYLIM Toastmasters is accepting applications for VP-Education.
