The objective of every Toastmasters District conference is to host the required semi-annual District Council Meeting (aka the business meeting) in an educational, entertaining, and fun atmosphere.

The Basics

The two basic requirements of a District Conference are to:

1)   assemble the District Council for required semiannual business meetings; and

2)   select a candidate for the International Speech contest to represent District at the World Championship of Public Speaking.

The District council is the governing body of the District and consists of the Presidents and VPEs of all the Clubs in the District, plus all District officers. The District officers include the District Director, the Program Quality Director, the Club Growth Director, all the Division Directors and Area Directors, and the various other members of the District leadership.  The District officers present reports on their activities at the business meeting. The District Council elects District officers for the upcoming Toastmaster year, reviews and/or approves club re-alignment plans, and conducts other district business activities.

Traditionally, District 83 Spring Conferences are a 2-day event held on a weekend.  The Saturday agenda runs from 7:15 AM to approximately 9:00 PM.  The Sunday event is a shorter day starting at 7:45 AM and ending about 12:30 PM. It is an action-packed weekend full of great Toastmasters activities.

Depending on the length of your drive to the conference, you may choose to stay overnight at the event venue, The Renaissance Hotel in Iselin, NJ. Toastmasters has secured a block of hotel rooms at the discounted rate of $135.00 per night.  Contact the hotel at 877-901-2082 or online at this link Book your group rate for Toastmasters District 83 to reserve your room.

Beyond the Basics

To gather as many representatives and members as possible from all over the district, the District includes several additional compelling activities at every conference.

Contest finals ... In addition to the required International Speech contest in the Spring, the District holds Evaluation contest.  These contests feature some of the best speakers in the district and are always entertaining!

Keynote Speaker…For the 2018 Spring Conference, District 83 is privileged to have the 1990 World Champion of Public Speaking David Brooks delivering our keynote address on Saturday evening.  http://www.davidbrookstexas.com/.

Educational sessions... District conferences offer a variety of interesting educational sessions that are carefully designed to appeal to the interests and educational needs of district members. The workshops cover an introduction to the Pathways program, plus workshops focused on club related themes, personal growth, and professional growth.

Who Can Attend? EVERYONE! You don’t have to be a Club officer or a speech contest participant to attend a Toastmasters conference. In fact, you don’t even have to be a Toastmaster! Our conference is designed to provide an exciting and beneficial learning opportunity for anyone seeking self-improvement. Many clubs attend as a group and many members bring their spouse or other guests with them to enjoy the day together.

The Best Part While there are loads of activities and things to do, the best part of a district conference is the people. When you attend, you’ll find that you are sitting next to new friends who are all on a similar Toastmasters journey. You might even make some contacts that will become longtime friends or advance your career.

Attend? Present? Volunteer? How do you want to participate in the next District conference experience? Or how about volunteering, before or during the event? A wide variety of roles are available and just waiting for you to leverage them as part of your Toastmasters experience. Contact the Conference Planning Committee or any District officer for more information about available opportunities.
